Suspended Chord

"Suspended Chord" is a twice life-size sculpture (six feet tall). for the Plano (Texas) Symphony Orchestra. It can be configured as a bas relief, a pedestal mount or as a suspended "suspension". All the instruments were made on the lathe except the violin which is of parallam, an industrial wood product.

The instruments represent the four 'food groups' of music: strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion.

"Suspended Chord" is a double entendre, because it also represents a special notation for suspending or sustaining a note.

The trumpet is hollow, and made of white and yellow pine, using segmented turning. It can actually be sounded. The chord is white oak.
